Should Fans Wear Red Face: The Results
October 19th, 2007 . by contemptster
Wow, we really got the ball rolling on this one. First we asked a question about Cleveland Indians fans wearing red face, and then you responded. Thank you.
Did you notice last night that Fox didn’t cut to those fans? Maybe they weren’t there, but I had seen them throughout the Yanks and Sox series. I hope they were there and just didn’t get the “super fan on TV all night” treatment. So, I’ll take the credit for that. The far reaching grasp of this blog is incredib…What? The Deadspin link is the reason you all came here? Oh, not all of you, OK that’s cool. See I told you we have our own home grown suppor…You visited because of the I Dislike Your Favorite Team link. You mean the link that sings the praises of Contemptster calling it “a most interesting place” and “obscure” which are the first and second best complements we’ve ever received? That’s super. Who cares how you arrived here you helped us call out out these fools for what they are - assholes.
The polls are now closed and here are the results. David Putty sympathy votes aside, this was a rout. It is not OK to wear red face.

Still acceptable to wear red socks? Oh snap!
Harm, you look like Josh Beckett. Anyone ever tell you that?
As the owner and operator of I Dislike Your Favorite Team, I can’t believe we generated enough traffic to you to notice, but I think I speak for the entire IDYFT staff when I say we feel all tingly inside.
And I was trying to be complimentary when I called your corner of the Internet an ‘interesting place’, and ‘obscure’ only in comparison to the mega-media sites that posted that picture without any commentary at all.
If our little weird corner drove some traffic here, we are quite happy about it, and Very Proud. We Are Big Boys Today.
We will be happy to include you in our list of sites we like, too. If you don’t mind being listed with “The Strange”. I’ll bet you don’t.
Great work on this thing. Salut,
Big Blue Monkey
Hey thanks. We didn’t take offense to that. Those were honestly the biggest compliments we’ve received.
I played 9 years in MLB. As a youngster in the late ’50’s, I lived in Akron, Ohio. I loved Rocky Colavito, Mudcat Grant, and Leon “Daddy Wags” Wagner and the other members of the Tribe.
I view the use of the Cleveland Indian mascot just as I do the use of the Dallas Cowboy, New England Patriot, and Tampa Bay Buccanner mascots.
I feel that all professional teams choose their mascots to increase the perceived enjoyment of their specific team and city.
I feel that anyone offended by the Cleveland Baseball Club using the Indian as the mascot need to grow up. You are making a mountain out of a molehill. Grow up!
The next thing that will probably happen will be when the animal rights kooks demand the discontinuance of the use of Dolphins, D’Backs, and Bears!!
Don’t Jim Rome me..
Please correct my spelling and grammar!
Greg Pryor
Greg, your grammar looks fine, but I think you miss the point of the post/vote. I understand your loyalty to your mascot, but I think a line is crossed when you paint your face red and imitate an Indian. It’s the same as someone wearing black face. It shouldn’t be done. We’re talking about a race of people here, not animals so that comparison doesn’t work. It’s not even the same ball park. We’re talking about people making broad stereotypical caricatures of a group of people. I don’t see how that makes a jump to banning animal mascots. Thanks for commenting.
